After weeks of drama, more has come to the table. Tales from the Borderlands voice actor Troy Baker was originally asked at Supanova Melbourne on whether or not he was returning to voice Rhys at a panel. He responded solemnly “no,” with no understanding as to why he was not asked. Later, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said that he was offered the role but declined according to Gearbox’s Audio Director. Pitchford continued by saying that he does not think it will matter. Now, Baker has answered back.

In an interview with OnlySP, Baker stated: “I said I’d love to come back. They said I wasn’t coming back. Their timeline tells an interesting story. I think it’s interesting that Randy Pitchford tweeted out that I turned it down and then said he heard that I turned it down. So maybe…I would fact-check before I tweeted out to the internet.”

This is a fair critique as it seems that there has been some level of miscommunication between the two parties that have led them to where they are now. Pitchford has yet to respond regarding Baker’s comments, but there is a solid chance that he will. He has already written a lengthy thread of tweets regarding why Borderlands 3 is having a six-month exclusivity deal with the Epic Games Store.

Tales from the Borderlands was a beloved game in the franchise, so if Baker truly is not coming back to the role then there has to be a good reason as to why. We may find that out once Borderlands 3 comes out later this year.
