Whether it was intended to happen or not, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness has become not only a huge hit for Netflix, but has also happened to take the internet by storm. While the documentary series, which covers the life and crimes of zoo operator and showman Joe Exotic, has been out for just under a month, the controversial series has already made its way into a number of fan-made creations. However, few are as outlandish as what one fan did to take the series’ cast to the courts in NBA 2K20.
2kToro on YouTube released a new video that brings the cast of Tiger King into NBA 2K20, and it’s pretty much what you would expect. Using the player creator, 2kToro was able to craft realistic in-game portrayals of several of the subjects from Tiger King. Joe Exotic of course is among them, while 2kToro also recreated other notable figures from the series such as Carole Baskin, Jeff Lowe, and Doc Antle.
Aside from recreating the Tiger King cast, 2kToro went even further by creating specific tiger and leopard themed clothing for them to play while on the court. The video also includes gameplay footage of the cast taking each other on in a game of hoops, which is something in and of itself. If you’ve been trying to decide whether Carole Baskin really did kill her husband or want to see how Jeff Lowe dribbles, now might be the perfect way to decide all that.
For those unfamiliar with the series (somehow), Tiger King was released last month on Netflix and became a cultural sensation over the past few weeks. Filmed over the course of five years at the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma, the documentary series explores a complex web of animal trafficking between figures such as Joe Exotic (the head of GW Zoo) and Carole Baskin, the owner of the Big Cat Rescue animal sanctuary.
From there, the series explores a number of other figures that played roles in Joe Exotic’s life and his zoo, along with his rivals seeking to put an end to his operation. After the initial 7-episode series topped Netflix’s streaming charts, a recent eighth episode was released that explores their lives in the aftermath of the documentary’s release, which was hosted by Joel McHale.
This of course isn’t the first time that the worlds of Tiger King and video gaming have collided. Just a few weeks ago after the documentary series released, someone took it upon themselves to recreate the show’s cast in The Sims 4 to a strikingly realistic degree. The Sims 4 player even went as far as modding and painting the game’s dogs to look like its signature tigers.
Of course, this begs the question of what kind of crazy fan-made content we can expect from Tiger King in other video games. Will we see Joe Exotic replacing Nemesis in a Resident Evil 3 mod? Only time (and the diligence of fans) will tell.
NBA 2K20 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, while Tiger King can be streamed now on Netflix.
