These Are the US’ Five Best-Selling PSVR Games (According to NPD)

Like it or not, software sales are often one of the strongest metrics to measure a game’s success. While we can bandy on about Metacritic scores and how it feels to play a particular game, developers and publishers alike must always keep one vigilant eye on their sales figures. After all, passion alone doesn’t keep the lights on in the expensive world of game design.

Earlier today Mat Piscatella, a video games industry analyst for The NPD Group, unveiled the five best-selling PSVR titles in the United States through a post on his Twitter account. In order, Piscatella announced that the best-selling “PSVR Required” titles are Farpoint, Worlds VR, Batman: Arkham VR, The Elder Scrolls V: Skryim, and Driveclub VR.

Piscatella was clear to note that the ranking was determined by dollar amount, not sales figures. Additionally, it’s worth nothing that The NPD Group’s list only contains PlayStation 4 games that require PSVR, not games like Resident Evil 7 where the VR capabilities are completely optional.

Notably, three of the five titles on the list were published by none other than Sony itself. While third-party developers have no shortage of PSVR titles available, it’s evident that Sony’s own offerings have been more popular than most. In fact, the only two non-Sony titles that made the list are massively popular IP’s like Batman and The Elder Scrolls.

With the Oculus Quest, a new VR device that parallels the Nintendo Switch’s hardware capabilities, coming soon it seems likely that VR gaming isn’t going away anytime soon. I hope it doesn’t for my sake, after all, that new Darth Vader game looks very, very cool.
