With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s fifth and final Fighter’s Pass DLC character likely to be revealed soon, speculation is running rampant in the community about who could soon be coming to the popular fighting game. Ahead of The Game Awards next week, the location in which many assume this new DLC fighter will be revealed, a new “leak” has come about claiming that the iconic Master Chief is set to join Smash.

The leak comes in the form of an audio recording, which is supposed to be from the reveal trailer in which Master Chief’s arrival in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be announced. Master Chief’s AI partner Cortana can be heard speaking in the recording, claiming that the famed first-person shooter character has been invited to Smash. Cortana also goes on to specifically mention Mario, stating that Nintendo’s Italian plumber is taunting Master Chief to do battle.

While it’s a fun little leak that might make many excited about Master Chief’s arrival in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’s also surely fake. For starters, the recording itself stems from 4chan, which is one of the worst places you can ever go to for leaks and rumors regarding video games. Since the entire platform comes from anonymous posters, there’s no way to verify the person who shared this recording. Furthermore, the audio is said to be taken from a rehearsal of The Game Awards next week and I’m not even sure that there have been rehearsals for the show just yet.

It’s also worth noting just how bad the writing is in this audio recording. The verbiage that Cortana is using in the leak is altogether awful and doesn’t sound like high-quality writing whatsoever. It definitely comes off as something that a fan wrote and put together more than a multi-person team at a development studio.

Still, there’s no doubt whatsoever that if Master Chief did somehow find his way onto the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, it’d be extremely hype. One person on Twitter went as far as to splice together the leaked audio with the iconic music from Halo and it definitely gets you excited.

Considering the Fighter’s Pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to be wrapped up by February 2020, The Game Awards seem like a good venue in which we’ll see who the 5th playable fighter ends up being. While Master Chief would surely be an excellent addition to the roster, I wouldn’t put any stock in his appearance based solely on this almost-definitely fake audio leak.
