It’s finally here. Kiryu Kazama’s journey from battle-hardened yakuza to weird, old “Uncle Kaz” is playable on something besides a PlayStation. Of course, Xbox and PC fans will have to wait until March to finish the fight in Yakuza 6, but that just gives them plenty of time to catch up. The Yakuza Remastered Collection is out today on Xbox One and PC. And, of course, it’s all available on Game Pass if you’re already a subscriber. The Yakuza Remastered Collection puts together the three middle Yakuza games from the PS3 era. While they haven’t been given the full Kiwami treatment like Yakuza 1 and 2, they have been spiffed up quite a bit. All three games run at 1080p and 60fps. I can’t perfectly speak to the Xbox and PC versions, but I’ve had minimal technical hiccups on the PS4 version. I would expect these to be the same. You might see a few blips, but nothing major.
Plus, any minor problems you encounter are more than washed away by all three games’ quality. Look, if you’ve played a Yakuza game before, you know the drill. They’re crime dramas, but really they’re amazing collections of characters, hijinks, and Kiryu being stoic in the face of sheer insanity. Yakuza 4 and 5 go so far as to introduce several new playable characters to really switch things up. It’s wonderful chaos and a series you absolutely have to try out.
The Yakuza Remastered Collection is out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Yakuza 6 finally joins it on PC and Xbox One on March 25. So you have about two months to get yourself caught up before seeing Kiryu ride off into the sunset and become a nameless bodyguard.
