The Medium is Bloober Teams upcoming horror title that’s slated to launch this month on PC and the Xbox Series X | S. Today, it was confirmed that the horror game set in 2 dimensions will support ray tracing and DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). A new trailer shows these in action.

During Nvidia’s GeForce RTX: Game On showcase event at CES 2021 today, developer Bloober Team announced its partnership with Nvidia. This will see The Medium running Microsoft DirectX Raytracing and Nvidia DLSS technology, all of which will be available at launch.

A short trailer —that you can watch below— showcases these elements in action, allowing us to see dynamic shadows and pretty reflections. The video shows off a mixture of lush, sleek levels with marble floors and plenty of picture frames, and also dark, battered levels with gritty textures and puddles. Oh, and a creepy mask.

Seeing as this was all Nvidia focused, I wondered about whether this included the console version of The Medium. Speaking to a representative of Bloober Team, I was told that the game “will support ray tracing on XSX at launch.”

The game was slated to launch last year in December for PC and Xbox Series X | S but was delayed to January. According to the developer, The Medium wouldn’t be possible on last-generation consoles because of the dual reality system it uses, and Bloober Team has no plans to port it over. We’ve seen this system in action, and even more so after a 14-minute gameplay trailer was revealed last week.

The Medium has opened up pre-orders for Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox Series X | S with a 10% discount for orders made prior to launch. Orders will also grant players access to the soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka and Arkadiusz Reikowski as well as a digital artbook. The game is to launch on January 28, 2021.
