It’s Valentine’s Day and love is in the air, or so I’ve been told. To celebrate, Naughty Dog today released a new piece of concept art from the studio’s current project, The Last of Us Part II.
The image released is one that will likely be very familiar to fans as it is a callback to The Last of Us Part II’s E3 2018 gameplay trailer. We see both Ellie and Dina dancing in the middle of the crowded barn with a few vague faces surrounding them. The art singles out Ellie and Dina though with the light primarily shining on the two character’s faces. In case you haven’t seen the final product of what this piece became, you can see it above in the featured image of this article.
“Long before E3, Ellie and Dina’s dance began with this original concept art by [Alexandria Neonakis],” Naughty Dog tweet today alongside the concept art itself. The artist of the piece, Neonakis, said themselves in a follow-up tweet on their personal account that this was one of the earliest pieces of concept art that they did for The Last of Us Part II. It’s no wonder that this ended up becoming the sequence of gameplay that we saw at E3 2018, in that case. If this was one of the first pieces that Neonakis did for the game, you’d have to imagine it was likely one of the first completed portions of The Last of Us Part II as well.
Currently, news on The Last of Us Part II has been sparse on 2019, so even the smallest pieces of art for the game at this point are nice to see. Hopefully, as we continue to progress throughout this year, Naughty Dog will have more details to share on the title.
