Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet Was Inspired by Destiny, The Division and Fallout

The upcoming Sword Art Online game for PS4, Xbox One and PC Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is certainly taking a very peculiar route for a game of a series that has always been rooted in the JRPG genre.

It’s going to be a third-person shooter with RPG elements, and that’s unsurprising, considering that it’s set in the world of the fictional VRMMO-shooter Gun Gale Online.

That being said, the genre is certainly going to be a new experience for the SAO development team, and it’s natural to wonder whether they took inspiration from other games, especially from the west.

During a round-table interview at Bandai Namco’s headquarters in Shinagawa-Tokyo, Producer Yosuke Futami mentioned that developers did indeed reference games from the west while creating the game, bringing up Destiny, Tom Clancy’s The Division and the Fallout series.

JRPG fans shouldn’t worry, though, as Futami-san also explained that there will still be lots RPG elements in the game.
