Nintendo announced earlier today that it will unveil the final Fighter’s Pass character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later this week in a new Direct hosted by director Masahiro Sakurai. While for now, leaks and rumors as to who this new addition to the roster could be haven’t really come about, the game’s community is now seemingly assuming that they have a good idea as to who could soon be coming.

Based on some information that was divulged last week, it seems quite possible that Dante from the Devil May Cry series could be the next character joining Smash Ultimate. In a message to fans last week, Capcom producer Matt Walker stated that news on the upcoming Switch port of Devil May Cry 3 would be arriving soon. Specifically, Walker told fans that January 16 was a date that they needed to circle on their calendars to look forward to learning more. While Walker’s message was said to be directly about the Switch edition of DMC3, some have now assumed that because this Smash Direct is transpiring on the same aforementioned date that the two events could somehow be related.

Dante would actually make a lot of sense to join the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and has likely been one of the most-requested characters in recent years. Not only has Capcom previously shown a willingness to bring its characters over to the iconic fighting franchise with the inclusion of Mega Man, but the Japanese publisher has also brought over the first two Devil May Cry titles to Switch in recent months. To see Dante join Smash right before the launch of DMC 3 on Switch in February would surely be something that Capcom wouldn’t be against by any means.

Still, it’s worth noting that none of this is confirmed just yet and you should take it all with a grain of salt. We could just be due for some news on Thursday related to Devil May Cry 3 itself which will have nothing whatsoever to do with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Basically, if you want to see Dante in Smash, you should hope for the best but prepare for the worst, just as you would with any other character.

Obviously, we’ll learn more officially in under 48 hours about who Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s newest character will be for sure, but Dante seems to have a fair shot at this point in time. We will keep you up to date on all of the latest happenings with Smash Ultimate here on DualShockers as news comes about.
