DOTA 2 Auto Chess absolutely blew up at the beginning of 2019. The game hit eight million players in late April and was boasting over 300k concurrent players at that time as well. It is a massive hit and the team at Epic has decided to strike while the iron is hot. They’ve brought in the teams at Drodo and Dragonest Game to build a stand-alone Auto Chess game exclusive to the Epic Game Store. Give the trailer a look below.

Auto Chess is difficult to describe and harder to master. You will collect different hero cards and play them to build your “chessboard”. You can arrange them in whatever formation you want, but it’s important to protect certain heroes so that they can build up their special attacks. Meanwhile, seven other players are doing the same thing. Each round you’ll fight against another player and try to knock them out of the game. The last one alive wins.

Obviously, that’s just a very short description of how the game plays. I don’t want to bore you with the specifics. Just know that it can get pretty complicated, but once you figure it out in your brain, there’s really nothing else like it.

This is a huge get for the Epic Game Store. They’ve just become the place to go for one of the most engaging games of 2019. It will be interesting to see how much more work is done on the DOTA 2 mod after this announcement.
