Square Enix initially won’t be releasing exclusive PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X games and instead focus on releasing games on both the next-gen platforms and their elder sisters. Using the backward compatibility of PS5 and Xbox Series X, the Japanese company will release games for both PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Square Enix will begin publishing next-gen exclusive games later on. All of this was revealed by Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda when revealing the company’s third-quarter financial results for the current fiscal year, ending on March 31, 2020. A report for the results was published as well. Thanks to Game’s Talk for pointing it out.

Long story short, thanks to Dragon Quest Walk, Romancing SaGa re; univerSe, Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Quest X, Square Enix’s earnings and sales greatly improved compared to the same time period last year.

What’s also interesting is how during the meeting, Yosuke Matsuda was asked if the delay of Final Fantasy VII Remake affected any of their other upcoming projects’ development or release schedules. He answered that it didn’t. This is just a guess of mine, but seeing Square Enix’s sales and earnings were deemed satisfying for the current fiscal year, Final Fantasy VII Remake being pushed back from March 3, 2020, to April 10, 2020, is a move to keep a surefire financial success for the next financial year.

Final Fantasy VII Remake launches on April 10 on PlayStation 4. It’s a PS4 exclusive until April 2021. You can check out the latest trailer, gameplay, and the opening cutscene here. New artwork was recently revealed as well, as well as new screenshots. Storage space requirements have seemingly leaked as well. We also recently translated comments on the remake from Takahiro Sakurai, the seiyuu/Japanese voice of Cloud Strife.
