Mobile RPG Kotodaman by Sega is adding the 3D Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog The Movie in its newest collaboration event. This means a 2D redesign of 3D Hollywood Sonic has emerged, and I honestly wish I didn’t have to see it. So I’m making everyone reading DualShockers share my tragic fate.

Kotodaman is one of the most popular mobile games in Japan, and this Sonic event was announced during the game’s 2nd anniversary live stream. Sonic, in his post-Sonic Adventure design, was already added for a time-limited event in Kotodaman, and he’s also coming back for the occasion.

Being one of the most popular mobile games in Japan, Kotodaman already had a multitude of collaboration throughout its 2 years long run, with various franchises of all horizons such as Fairy Tail, Persona 5, Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion, Kemono Friends, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Samurai Spirits, and more.

Personally speaking, I’m one of the Sonic fans who think even the redesign of Sonic in the movie is pretty bad. I’m still wondering why this movie even exists in the first place. Money, of course, especially seeing the movie is doing pretty well in the box offices around the world, and in Japan especially. Hence why these kinds of collaborations events are happening. I’d rather not imagine how the original Sonic movie design could have looked in 2D.

If you put Sonic’s design aside, Sonic the Hedgehog in itself was actually a pretty okay movie.
