Today Square Enix announced a remake of the classic Seiken Densetsu 2, known in the west as Secret of Mana.

The remake will be titled Seiken Densetsu 2: Secret of Mana in Japan, and simply Secret of Mana in the west, and it will launch worldwide in Japan on February 15th, 2018.

The platforms will be PS4, PS Vita and Steam.

The announcement press release mentions that the game will receive “upgraded gameplay” for modern platforms, and a newly-arranged musical score. Of course, the visuals have been completely remade in 3D as you can see on the screenshots and video below.

We also hear about the pre-order bonuses. Those who pre-order on the PlayStation Store will receive special character costumes: “Moogle Suit” for Randi, Primm and Popoi, “Tiger Two-Piece” for Primm and “Tiger Suit” for Randi and Popoi, as well as three PSN avatars.

Those who pre-purchase the game, or purchase the Day 1 Edition within one week of the launch on Steam will receive the same costumes and a downloadable wallpaper.

Pre-orders aren’t available at the moment of this writing, but should be here for the PlayStation Store and here for Steam.

Secret of Mana was originally released by Square in 1993 (and one year after in the PAL region), for the SNES. Directed by Koichi Ishii and produced and written by Hiromichi Tanaka, it featured couch-co-op with up to three players.

Below you can see the first screenshots showing what gameplay looks like, an image of the pre-order costumes, and the trailer both in English and in Japanese.
