Kadokawa Games released the first trailer and screenshots of its upcoming live-action remake of Root Letter, titled Root Letter: Last Answer.

We get to see the actors for the main characters and a comparison between the live-action mode and the original game. Incidentally, the original illustrated gameplay featuring artwork by Taro Minoboshi will also be included in the package, so if you don’t have Root Letter, you have both with the remake.

The live-action mode is titled “Drama Mode” because it reproduces the atmosphere of TV dramas, and it includes ninety actors and real-world locations from Shimane Prefecture. The original artwork is included in the aptly-named “Original Mode.”

Four additional scenarios have been added, happening after the original story, and those can also be enjoyed in both Drama and Original modes.

More improvements have been added, including better route branching that can let you reach every ending excluding the true ending on the first playthrough. The skipping feature has been enhanced. Icons indicating that a route has been cleared have been added. The UI of the inventory has been improved. Some gameplay areas have been made more responsive. Last, but not least, the conditions for unlocking some trophies have been relaxed, while new ones have been added.

Root Letter: Last Answer was announced last month together with a still-mysterious sequel tentatively-named Root Letter 2. It will release on December 20th in Japan for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PS Vita. A western launch has not been announced yet.

The original game shipped over 400,000 copies for PS4, PS Vita, and PC. You can read my review from back when it was released on consoles.
