Today on a live stream dedicated to the SaGa RPG series and its new mobile game Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe, Square Enix announced that the HD remastered version of Romancing SaGa 3 has been delayed. While the remaster, which should come to all platforms, had no precise release date, it was supposed to launch in “early 2019”.

On the stream, SaGa seriess Director Akitoshi Kawazu mentioned that they’re trying to make the remaster as great as possible, and require a bit more time to reach this goal.

SaGa series’ Producer Masanori Ichikawa added that the game’s development is nearly complete but they want to make it as perfect as possible and raise the quality even more. Director Kawazu also said that they’re meticulously dissecting the original Super Famicom game while making many adjustments to the remaster, which takes a lot of time. He also indicated that Romancing SaGa 3 Remaster‘s development never stopped since the game’s announcement in 2017, and it did not slow down because of Romancing SaGa Re:univerSe.

Once the stream ended, Akitoshi Kawazu also posted a message on Twitter, asking Romancing SaGa 3 fans to be patient, that the development team is trying their best, and that the game will be ready soon.

As multiple talented and veteran game creators left Square and now Square Enix over the years, SaGa‘s Akitoshi Kawazu is one of the only veterans developers left at Square Enix, working for the company since before the very first Final Fantasy game launched. History always only remembers Hironobu Sakaguchi, but Akitoshi Kawazu greatly contributed to the Final Fantasy series as well.

Romancing SaGa 3′s Remaster’s intro was already briefly shown during a marathon stream last Christmas featuring the Virtual Console version of the original Snes game. During the stream today, they showed more of the game’s intro in its current build. You can check it out below at the 14:45 mark.

Romancing SaGa Re:univerSe is available now in Japan on iOS and Android.

Romancing SaGa 3 ‘s HD remaster is scheduled for release in 2019 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PS Vita, iOS and Android. A western release was previously announced too, but we don’t know yet if it’ll make it to all these platforms, the Vita especially.
