After being revealed only a couple of months back in October, Sony Pictures has confirmed that the Resident Evil movie reboot has now finished filming. Filming began on October 17 in Canada and the movie is scheduled to be released on September 9, 2021.

The reboot is being directed by British Director Johannes Roberts who is best known for a range of movies in the horror genre. Upon the reveal of Resident Evil he said: “With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.”

The cast includes Robbie Amell (Upload) who will play Chris Redfield, Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) who plays Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Warren (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.

Last month, images from the set surfaced on the internet showing off a helicopter emblazoned with the S.T.A.R.S logo and a building that could be Spencer Mansion, the setting of the upcoming film.

The new Resident Evil movie joins a deluge of upcoming video game adaptations on both the big and small screens. Production will begin soon on HBO’s The Last of Us series, there’s also an upcoming Halo series, Cuphead cartoon, Assassin’s Creed Nextflix adaptation and a Fallout TV show from Bethesda Studios and Amazon to name but a few. That list doesn’t even include the Resident Evil TV show or the upcoming second season of Netflix’s The Witcher series, which has had its fair share of troubles shooting recently.
