When Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on Xbox One and PS4 last year, the most that players could do in regard to taking photos in-game was using Arthur’s shoddy camera. The camera itself was incredibly limiting, but thankfully, there were other methods of grabbing photos of the game’s beautiful world as I detailed here.
With Red Dead Redemption 2 landing on PC this month, it also brought a dedicated photo mode with fewer limits, allowing players to really get hands-on with capturing moments in the game. This, of course, has led to numerous posts online with players showing off their photos, and some are just plain stunning.

The level of detail in some of the photos are certainly something to behold, with the less compressed images allowing you to really see the tiny details on faces, clothing, and even nature in the background.

The quality of the game on PC is largely thanks to Rockstar’s improved graphics built specifically for PC users. It includes improved draw distances, a higher quality global illumination and ambient occlusion, and reflections and shadows are of better quality than the console versions.

There are also higher quality textures, especially on the trees, grass, and fur which offer more realism, especially if you like suiting Arthur up with furry clothing. It’s also worth noting the PC version of the game supports HDR as well as running on 4K resolutions “and beyond”. There’s also the ultra-wide option which you can see shown off below.

Red Dead Redemption 2 certainly seems very pretty to look at, and a lot of players are stating that they’re becoming so distracted with the photo mode that they’re forgetting to progress in the story. However, there are numerous reports surrounding PC issues, and some people claiming they’re struggling to run the game.

While the game has only been out less than a week there have already been PC mods appearing for the title, with a Joker inspired model being one of the first. There are also a few mods that allow players to skip the lengthy intro sessions before the gang reaches Valentine.
You can find loads more photos from the game on Twitter, especially searching for “Red Dead Redemption 2 Photo Mode“. It’s worth a delve if you’ve got a few minutes to kill.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PS4 and Xbox One. It has only just launched on PC, and will also be arriving to the upcoming Google Stadia later this month.
