In a space dominated by PUBG, Fortnite, Call of Duty’s Blackout, and more recently Apex Legends, Realm Royale from Heroic Leap Games and Hi-Rez Studios has mostly been in the background. The fantasy battle royale game may be looking to expand its audience, with a now-taken down trailer on Nintendo’s Portugal YouTube account seemingly confirming that the game’s beta will come to Switch.

According to the trailer, Switch owners would have to purchase the Founder’s Pack for Realm Royale in order to play the beta—free-to-play this isn’t exactly. Doing so would give Switch owners access to all of the gameplay features that PS4, Xbox One, and PC players have been enjoying for the past several months.

What makes Realm Royale stand out to its competitors is its focus on classes and abilities. The line-up of classes is made up of the Warrior, the Assassin, the Mage, and the Hunter, all with their own advantages when it comes to weapons and abilities. Speaking of which, abilities can be picked up on the field or taken from loot chests, and the ability to craft weapons, abilities, and more in designated forge locations.

As of now, Switch owners can play Paladins for free on the console, and luckily for those players, Realm Royale shares some gameplay similarities. While Realm Royale is third-person a la Fortnite, compared to Paladins and its first-person perspective, both allow players to mount horses to traverse through the map—seeing how the Realm Royale map is significantly larger, these mounts are a must.

The YouTube video did not mention cross-play, but seeing how Hi-Rez has advocated for cross-platform play, and since the Switch version of Paladins can interact with the Xbox One version, its inclusion would not come as a surprise. The removed trailer touts that the game is true “Switch Royale,” emphasizing the portability of the game.

As the removed trailer states that Realm Royale is available “now” for the Switch, and this certainly isn’t the case at the time of this writing, the initial publishing of the video was likely premature. Still, be on the lookout for the game’s eventual release on the Nintendo Switch. In the meantime, you can read my written thoughts on the beta, which I played on the PS4.
