The main antagonists of Kill la Kill the Game: IF finally get some gameplay in a 14-minute video by QuestGamingTV. The video highlights both Nui Harime and Ragyo Kiryuin, as they show off some of their signature moves from the anime series.

Shown first is Nui Harime, who is the secondary antagonist and the head designer of the “clothes” under Ragyo. Her move-set appears to fit her character quite well, from skipping to threading opponents throughout the match. She’s, of course, equipped with the other scissor blade that allows her to cut through the Goku uniforms. She can also make copies of herself and deal damage from across the screen that way. Her clones also take part in her super finisher as well. What makes Nui stand out, however, is her quirkiness remains intact in the game. She still has her parasol that she floats down in and also turns flat when she dodges, making a nod to her battle from the anime.

Ragyo, on the other hand, retains everything that made her such a villain in Kill la Kill. From her slow and menacing walk to her crazy needle attacks, Ragyo embodies the anime villain trope to a tee. Like I mentioned earlier she walks rather slow, though has some teleport abilities. This sounds like it wouldn’t work for a fighting character on paper, but think of Ragyo as more of a zoning M. Bison from Street Fighter. What’s even more insane though is her super move. She lights up the whole stage with giant fire blasts that are almost impossible to dodge and do an absurd amount of damage. It appeared from the video that the finishing move alone did close to 30 percent damage. Of course, we’ll have to see how good she really is once the game releases and we see people trying combos and playing matches.

Kill la Kill the Game: IF looks like its got its gameplay mechanics down, looking to be a good compromise between a casual enjoyment and tournament title. Whether Arc System Works activates a competitive scene for this title like BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and Guilty Gear Xrd 2 though is anyone’s guess. I, on the other hand, will still be waiting for the Mako character reveal anytime.

Kill la Kill the Game: IF is expected to drop sometime this year for PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
