While Mortal Kombat 11 may be the April fighting game that is the current talk of the town, a new Power Rangers fighting game will also be coming in just a few months. Announced today by nWay, Hasbro, and Lionsgate following a leak, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid will be an accessible fighting game releasing for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime this April.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid seems like it will be full of fanservice, featuring Power Rangers and villains new and old, which is fitting considering it currently the 25th anniversary of the franchise. The game is fairly cheap too at $19.99, which definitely makes it one of the more appealing budget-fighting games on the horizon.

As Power Rangers is enjoyed by a wide variety of people young and old, the developers are attempting to make Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid more accessible. The game will not feature any special moves that require quarter-circle motions, making it more approachable. Still, nWay believes that depth may be there on a competitive level as more advance players fiddle with the game’s mechanics and learn the proper timing for every move at each character’s disposal.

To help keep player counts up, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid will actually feature cross-play between the PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions. The game will actually also feature cross-progression, so the progress made in in one of those three versions will be carried over no matter which console you are playing on.

While Sony does seem to be taking steps to incorporate cross-play into their multiplayer ecosystem, this cross-play and cross-progression functionality will not be available in the PS4 version at launch. nWay CEO and Co-Founder Taehoon Kim seems excited to finally deliver this kind of Power Rangers game on consoles and believes that cross-play will be pivotal to the experience:

“Power Rangers fans have been asking for a high fidelity fighting game on console and PC that match up iconic Rangers and villains across the expansive Power Rangers multiverse for quite some time now. We wanted to deliver this to the fans and make sure it has cross-play and cross-progression capabilities as we believe playing with friends across multiple platforms at the same time is where the future of gaming is headed.”

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is already available for pre-order on the game’s official website for all systems except PS4. Pre-ordering the game before launch will net you a Green Ranger V2 character skin as well as a digital art book. A $39.99 deluxe edition of the game is also available and includes Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid’s first Season Pass, a Lord Drakkon Evo II skin, and a Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Rangers Pink Ranger skin.

nWay is planning to support the game in the long-term with consistent updates and DLC poised to release throughout the rest of 2019. You can check out the first screenshots for the game alongside its debut teaser trailer below. Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch this April before hitting PC later in 2019.
