Alongside revealing additional details about a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game and revealing that expansions for Pokemon Sword and Shield are on their way, The Pokemon Company also announced the release window for Pokemon Home during its Direct today.
We now know that Pokemon Home, the transfer system that will let you import Pokemon that you may own from previous installments in the series to current titles like Pokemon Sword and Shield will be dropping next month in February 2020. The Pokemon Company didn’t go on to give a specific release date for the application, but we do know that it will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
If you’re curious about how Pokemon Home will work, the app will be compatible with both the Pokemon Let’s Go games along with Sword and Shield. It’ll also work in tandem with the Pokemon Bank, which was the storage system used with the 3DS entries in the Pokemon series. Essentially, if you want to transfer Pokemon that you may own from those previous games, you’ll just have to transfer them from the Pokemon Bank to Pokemon Home once the service is live. From there, you can bring them into the modern Switch entries in the series, assuming they’re compatible.
Be warned, however, as Pokemon Home will cost you money in order to use. The Pokemon Company hasn’t stated yet how much the service will cost, but if the Pokemon Bank is anything to go off of, the price shouldn’t be too steep. It cost $5 for a whole year of the service to utilize the Pokemon Bank previously and if I had to take a wild guess, Home will likely be pretty similar in price.
We’ll surely hear about a more concrete release date and price for Pokemon Home here in the near future, so stay tuned. Until then, you can pick up both Pokemon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Switch right now if you haven’t already.
