Pokemon Go Fest 2020 is just around the corner and today the Pokemon Company released a new commercial from esteemed director Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out). The trailer, released alongside some new key art celebrating Pokemon Go’s fourth anniversary, shares the magic of the game.

The trailer shows off the new reality blending feature within the game, which deepens the augmented reality functionality of the game as Pokemon are now obscured by environmental objects. The trailer also teases some of the Pokemon you may be able to catch at this year’s Go Fest including the incredibly rare Gible.

Director of the commercial Rian Johnson had this to say about the game, “Pokémon GO has kept me engaged with my friends remotely as I’ve been practicing physical distancing these past few months,” adding “As a longtime Pokémon trainer, it was a real pleasure working with Niantic on this spot. It was a new experience for me to direct a production remotely, and I enjoyed the highly collaborative process and think we put together a fun and upbeat commercial that fans will enjoy.”

The trailer was also released alongside some key art which also has some new surprises hidden throughout. The image teases the addition of Generation Six to the game as the Kalos starters Fennekin, Froakie and Chespin can be seen. Adding these would be a surprise however as there are still a handful of Pokemon that are yet to be released from the Unova region. The image also teases Mega Evolutions, including Charizard and Mewtwo, which were confirmed to be coming to the game in one of June’s Pokemon Presents presentations.

Victini, who is confirmed to be one of the legendary Pokemon available at this years event, can be spotted riding amongst some Pikachu Balloons on the right of the picture and a mysterious Team Rocket hot air balloon is also seen floating at the top of the image.

This is the first year that Pokemon Go Fest is being held from home, forgoing the usual single real-world location due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Tickets are still on sale for the event, which takes place on the weekend of July 25/26, through the Pokemon Go app.
