If you’re old enough to remember when Pokemon the Movie 2000 came out nearly twenty years ago, then you might remember getting an Ancient Mew Pokemon trading card when you when to see the film. Well, now for this summer’s release of Detective Pikachu, it seems a similar promotion will be coming around once again.

As was announced today on the official Pokemon website, those who see Detective Pikachu in theaters on opening weekend will be able to net themselves a one-of-a-kind card of the titular character. The promo card is from the long-running Pokemon trading card game and comes with unique moves like “Coffee Break” and “Corkscrew Punch.” While I doubt it’ll be available for use in tournament play, it’s a cool collector’s item to have.

Along with the announcement of giving away these free cards, actor Ryan Reynolds, who is voicing Detective Pikachu himself in the film, released a new trailer for the movie today on his YouTube channel. The video in question is pretty brief but it shows off a light of the real-life (or CGI) re-creations of many classic Pokemon throughout. Some of the new Pokemon that we get to see in more detail include Eevee, Squirtle, Charmander, Cubone, Treecko, Sneasel, Torterra, and many others. I continue to really like some of these designs while others I’m not so hot on. You can find the full video at the bottom of the page if you’re interested.

Detective Pikachu is set to hit theaters next month on May 10, 2019. Tickets are currently available for pre-purchase if you’d like to grab them now.
