As one of the leading minds behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the game that arguably fueled the craze of battle royale games in the past few years, Brendan Greene has skyrocketed in his career as a game developer and as the head of PUBG Corps. However, after several years in the spotlight and leading the charge on PUBG, Greene appears to be stepping back a bit to take on a new role exploring new technologies within PUBG Corps as a whole.

Announced via Twitter, Brendan Greene (aka “PlayerUnknown” himself) announced that he will be stepping away from his position at PUBG Corps to head up a new division at the company called PUBG Special Projects.

Greene detailed that PUBG Special Projects will be based in Amsterdam and will be the focus of his day-to-day operations with the company moving forward. While other details were vague at this time, the PUBG Special Projects division will, according to Greene, be focused more on research and game development among other ongoing projects. Greene, however, will still remain a consulting creative director with PUBG Corps as a whole.

As far as the goals and focus of the PUBG Special Projects division, Greene explained that when it comes to the ways that “online experiences and spaces can connect us,” PUBG Special Projects will aim to continue building on those types of socially-driven experiences among players while gaming online. Greene also added that at PUBG Special Projects, the team will be tasked with “exploring, experimenting, and creating new technologies, tools, pipelines, and gameplay” while also looking to explore “new possibilities and connection within the game space.”

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Android.
