It looks like PlatinumGames is set to pull another ace from its sleeve.

Via Ryokutya2089’s magazine leaks, the studio has a “major announcement” that will be made soon through the Weekly Famitsu Magazine releasing on February 27 in Japan (officially titled Weekly Famitsu Magazine March 12, 2020 Issue).

What this announcement might be about is unknown, but the likelihood is that it will reveal the second project in the “Platinum 4.”

Here are two details to keep in mind:

  1. Feb. 27 is the first day of PAX East and Platinum will be there to show off The Wonderful 101: Remastered. Whatever next week’s announcement is, it’s likely that Hideki Kamiya and company will arrive in Boston prepared to talk about that too.
  2. This is just a guess, but this new announcement might be related to Takahisa Taura, the lead game designer of NieR: Automata and the director of the Nintendo-published Astral Chain. It’s possible we might hear about his next game.

There’s also been an update on Bayonetta 3, again via Ryokutya2089’s magazine leaks. This week’s Weekly Famitsu Magazine includes an interview with Hideki Kamiya commemorating the release of the Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle. Kamiya, Platinum’s senior vice president and chief game designer, said the development of the game “is going well,” and that the initial and lone teaser trailer released at the end of 2017 has hidden info within it. Seeing the timing of this leaks, Kamiya must have teased Platinum’s “major announcement” in the same interview. We might give you additional details in a few hours when this week’s Famitsu magazine (officially titled Weekly Famitsu Magazine March 5, 2020 Issue) releases in Japan and is available digitally.

There’s been a lot going on at Platinum as of late. The studio took huge steps toward self-publishing its titles, first by reaching an agreement with Chinese holding company Tencent on a capital investment, then by successfully crowdfunding a remaster of its cult-classic action game The Wonderful 101 through Kickstarter.

The developer opened the “Platinum 4” website in the midst of all this, which the Wonderful 101: Remastered is a part of, and still have the aforementioned Bayonetta 3 in the works for the Nintendo Switch, plus Babylon’s Fall for the PlayStation 4 and PC under publisher Square Enix.
