Bandai Namco and Atlus held via Dengeki Online a live stream on February 4, sharing new information on the Persona 5 Royal x Sword Art Online crossover collab. This collab event concerns the Japanese versions of SAO mobile games Memory Defrag and Integral Factor, and it adds a lot of cool Persona 5 Royal characters and stuff to both games. A pretty cool trailer featuring Kirito and Joker was also published. It includes a short but pretty intense moment with Kirito, voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, and Joker, voiced by Jun Fukuyama, calling each other’s names, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Kirito x Joker becomes a new popular BL pairing in the next few months. Anyway, all the details are below.
First off, Sword Art Online Integral Factor will feature a story event where the Phantom Thieves end up in Aincrad. Skill Orders of the Phantom Thieves characters will be added. Shadows from Persona will appear in the game, and some of the SAO enemies will get Persona -like designs.
Avatar skins to dress like the Phantom Thieves will be added.
Skill Orders featuring SAO characters dressed as the Phantom Thieves can also be obtained. Only Kirito dressed as Joker was revealed for now.
SAO Integral Factor also has Line stamp-like things in its chat system. These super cute Persona 5 Royal SD characters stamps will be added to the game.
Next is Sword Art Online Memory Defrag. The Persona 5 Royal collab will add Joker, Panther, and Skull as playable characters. They’re all voiced by their respective seiyuu, Jun Fukuyama, Nana Mizuki, and Mamoru Miyano.
Clearing the Persona 5 Royal story event will unlock Yuuki Navi version as a playable character. Both Yuuki in SAO and Futaba/Navi in Persona 5 are voiced by Aoi Yuki. The producers said on stream Aoi Yuki specifically recorded new lines for this collab. Since I’m not playing the game, I’ll be keeping an eye on YouTube as fans will definitely upload said lines in a compilation video, and I advise you to do the same if you’re a fellow seiyuu fan.
Kasumi Yoshizawa/Violet, voiced by Sora Amamiya, can also be obtained as a playable character via daily login bonus.
The collab story will be about Joker and Kirito teaming up.
A design contest asking fans to combine SAO characters and P5R character designs is also being held on Twitter. The best ones will be published later on. The contest lasts until February 13 at 23:59 JST. To enter the contest, just tweet your illustrated design with the hashtag #SAOP5Rコラボ.
None of this was announced in the global versions of SAO Integral Factor and SAO Memory Defrag yet, but these collabs will probably come to the global versions someday.
Persona 5 Royal is available in Japan and launches on March 31 in the west, exclusively on PlayStation 4. Meanwhile, Persona 5 Scramble launches on PlayStation 4 and Switch on February 20 in Japan. Futaba recently explained P5S in a new video. A Japanese demo will also launch on February 6 and we’ll share our impressions about it as soon as possible.
