Longtime Overwatch fans might remember the newest hero Echo’s appearance in Ashe’s reveal video. There, she was rescued by McCree. Many fans have since been wondering when the hyper-intelligent AI would be making an appearance. Thankfully, you won’t have to wait much longer as the Overwatch team finally gave the long-awaited hero its very own origin story trailer. Give it a watch below.

Overwatch hasn’t gotten a new hero since Sigma back in August. That’s nearly seven months between releases, which seems long, but given the ongoing development of Overwatch 2, not unsurprising. Of course, not much is known about how the character controls in-game. Though, my assumption would be that Echo becomes the latest support hero in Overwatch on launch. That said, what we do know is that Echo is very important to the overall narrative around the game. Jeff Kaplan has spoken about the character a few times. Each time, he’s made it clear that something big is happening around Echo.

We should know more about the character and how it fits into the game’s narrative over the next week or so. Traditionally, heroes launch into the game about a month after they get their first trailer. That puts Echo’s release at some time in mid-April. That would, traditionally, coincide with the next version of the popular Overwatch Archives. It’s very easy to see Activision-Blizzard structuring their next seasonal event around their newest hero. Either way, make sure to stick with DualShockers for the eventual announcement.

Overwatch is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
