Original Fallout Is Free for a Limited Time on Steam

Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game released 20 years ago today, and to celebrate Bethesda has made the game absolutely free on Steam for a very limited amount of time.

If you’ve never played the original few games from the series, they’re very different from the sequels created from the ground up by Bethesda Game Studios. Where both Fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas can be played in either first or third-person, the original games (developed by Interplay Entertainment) were played from an overhead perspective — similar to Diablo and other dungeon crawlers.

On top of this, Interplay (and their Black Isle) division also created Fallout 2, Tactics, and Brotherhood of Steel.  They’re credited with creating many of the original creatures, characters, and factions fans have come to love in the games.

You only have until 11:59 P.M. Pacific time to grab the original title.

Bethesda has also discounted some bundles that can be bought in Fallout Shelter throughout the rest of the weekend. That offer will end on Monday at 11:59 Pacific time.

If you’re more into the modern iterations of the seriesyou can check out the Fallout 4: Game of the Year EditionThe Pip-Boy collector’s edition is also making a return for a limited time to coincide with the game’s release. DualShockers reviewed the latest game in the series, awarding the game a 9.0 out of 10 and noting “in nearly every way, is a bigger, better Fallout experience than we’ve ever had before.”
