We are still learning more about The Outer Worlds, Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division’s recently unveiled project that debuted at The Game Awards 2018. And while we don’t have a complete picture of what the Fallout-esque project will end up being, we did manage to get confirmations of some bright news: the game will be microtransaction-free.

Speaking to German publication Gamestar, Tim Cain reportedly said as much with DSO Gaming translating his response to whether microtransactions would be in the title:

There are no microtransactions in the game. You buy it once and then enjoy it forever.

What a response! Of course, that should be no major shock — the company explicitly as much on their forums last year. In a self-published post titled “A note about microtransactions in our upcoming RPG,” they noted:

The answer is simply: “no.” No microtransactions, of any kind, in our game.

Then, once the game was revealed, publication RPG Site in an interview with Obsidian’s Senior Narrative Designer Kathryn Megan Starks wanted to gauge whether the developer and publisher were still committed to that agreement. Thankfully, Starks noted similarly that it is still valid.

Anyone who knows about the gaming scene in 2018 will likely get a nice sigh of relief with that message. Whether you are a fan of in-game monetization or not, there is no doubt that there are patently broken systems when it comes to microtransactions. Take, for instance, the early rollout of Red Dead Online‘s paid Gold Bars which is having some in-game blowback. For those of us who don’t partake in these microtransactions, we are sometimes cursed with broken in-game economies.

If you wanted to see more about the game, there is other good news for you — the Steam page for The Outer Worlds is live, so we have a new batch of screenshots. You can check those out below.

The Outer Worlds is currently slated for a 2019 launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, though no official release date has been revealed.
