A new MMORPG is coming from Couch Studios titled Ember Sword. The game is shaping up to be free and have cross-play availability.

Ember Sword draws many inspirations, including from classic games like Runescape, and Ultima Online, in its combat system, open-world PVP, and economy. The game also promises to put together an engaging and persistent universe by allowing the player to own a parcel of land in-game, similar to Second Life.

Cross-Platform play will be available through a browser, a desktop client at release, or a mobile version that is planned for a later release.

Couch Studios also promises to re-define the negative pay-to-win reputation by removing a shop in the title that utilizes real-world currency. However, it was stated that there would be an optional monthly subscription and marketplace fees. The press release stated:

“Most free-to-play MMORPGs monetize through pay-to-win mechanics and non-transferable cosmetics in an attempt to increase revenue by locking down the cash shop economy. With Ember Sword, we’re putting players in charge of evolving the world and its economy instead, because to us, creating an engaging and fair universe is much more important than heavily monetizing players – opting instead for an optional monthly subscription and marketplace fees.”

Ember Sword currently does not have an official release date but will be coming out on PC. The announcement trailer can be viewed below:
