Mortal Kombat 11 will be the first MK game to come to a Nintendo console since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on the Wii. Fans of the series have been anxious to see how well the game fares on the Nintendo Switch, hoping it can become their more hardcore on-the-go fighter. Developer NetherRealm has finally released some Switch gameplay footage today. Check it out below.

We got our hands on Mortal Kombat 11 at PAX East and noted that, while the game doesn’t look as good on the Switch as it does on beefier platforms, it does run like a dream. This is backed up by the trailer NetherRealm put out today. There is a noticeable downgrade in visual fidelity, but everything you want from a Mortal Kombat game appears to be there.

The game runs at a smooth 60 frames-per-second, which goes right in line with Nintendo’s philosophy of gameplay over graphics. In our time with the game, we only played in handheld mode, so we can hopefully expect those frames to hold up if one is playing during a commute.

Outside of the graphical downgrade, the potential problem for Switch users is the file size for Mortal Kombat 11. According to the eShop page, the game clocks in at 22.5 GB. That’s nearly all of your internal storage. Buyers of the physical version will also need to be ready for a likely 15.9 GB day one patch.

That said, having Mortal Kombat on the go is incredibly appealing. Having a 3rd party game of this caliber in the palm of your hand is great gain for Nintendo and its users as well. Mortal Kombat 11 is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on April 23, 2019. The Nintendo Switch version of the game can be pre-ordered on Amazon.
