The hype machine is operating at full throttle this week with the recent reveal of Mortal Kombat 11’s gameplay. The visceral upcoming fighter sees a ton of new elements added to the game including its new Final Blow mechanic which allows players to unload a devastating attack when their health bar reaches critical levels.

However, one thing that the Mortal Kombat franchise has always been superb at is paying homage to its arcade roots. It’s not uncommon to see Scorpion activate his now iconic “Toasty” fatality, regardless of which iteration of the game you happen to be playing.

This time around though, the game recalls a stage fatality from 1993’s Mortal Kombat II. The move is now incorporated into series veteran Sub-Zero’s brutality.

Jake Neal, better known as his tag PND Mustard, showcased the move during a recent bout with his commentary partner PND Ketchup. He has since isolated a similar clip and uploaded it to his Twitter page.

The brutality move sees Sub-Zero encasing the ceiling in ice, edged with sharp stalactites. A powerful uppercut then sends his opponent skywards, impaling them on the spikes above.

This movie pays homage to the Kombat Tomb’s stage fatality from Mortal Kombat II. The arena saw a ceiling brimming with razor-sharp spikes which allowed players to knock foes into them to finish them off.

Mortal Kombat 11 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 23, 2019. The game also comes in an impressive Kollector’s Edition. You can pre-order the brutal fighter now via Amazon.
