Microsoft Flight Simulator launched to incredibly high flying reviews back in August. The aviation sim hit the PC and quickly had the biggest launch of any Xbox Game Pass for PC title, soaring to over a million unique players in under two weeks. Now, following that, the game’s developers Asobo Studios have shared another historic milestone that the long-running franchise has hit.

In the series’ 35 year history, 2020’s edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator became the fastest title to break over two million unique pilots.

The team shared a heartfelt thank you in a post on the Xbox Blog saying:

“This was possible thanks to the incredible community of fans, real-world pilots, flight enthusiasts, and virtual travelers who have embraced the new simulation since its arrival on August 18 and made it the biggest game launch in Xbox Game Pass for PC history. On behalf of the entire team, a huge thank you to all the fans who have taken to the skies and are exploring our world while discovering the magic of flight with us.”

Alongside their thanks, Asobo Studios shared an array of stats from the first few months of the title’s life.

The two million pilots have taken over 50 million flights between them, flying an astonishing 3.5 billion miles — “the equivalent of flying 19 times roundtrip from the Earth to the Sun, or around the world over 400 thousand times.” Within their flights, pilots have managed to cover 72% of the planet earth, with the most popular airports being JFK, Los Angeles International and Heathrow.

The game initially launched on PC, with a future release on Xbox consoles due for the future. While that future date is still unknown, Asobo Studios has recently shared a trailer of how the title looks on the Xbox Series X | S.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is available on PC through both the Microsoft Store and Steam. It’ll be flying onto to Xbox Series X | S next year.
