Today Media Create released its weekly analysis related to the period between July 31st and August 6th, giving a further look on the situation of the Japanese market overrun by Dragon Quest XI, in addition to the top-twenty ranking disclosed on Wednesday.

The firm reports that software sales last week were 900,000 in total, 36.57% of the week prior’s tally. Hardware sales also massively decreased to 181,000 units (54.71% of the week before) due to the shrinking of the push offered by Dragon Quest XI on its second week on the shelves. That being said, both software and hardware still sold well compared to the average of 2017, on a scale suitable for the summer shopping season.

The Great Ace Attorney 2 debuted with less than 70,000 copies sold, which is a little less than 60% of the debut figures of its predecessor in 2015 (which sold about 136,000 copies in its first week).

With Dragon Quest XI for 3DS and PS4 taking first and second place for the second week in a row, Media Create expects sales – especially of the 3DS version – to increase among casual gamers during the upcoming Obon holiday shopping.

We recently learned that Dragon Quest XI shipped over three million copies in a week. The game is currently available on both PS4 and 3DS in Japan, with a Nintendo Switch version also coming.

A western release is planned for next year, while platforms have not been officially announced just yet.
