It’s normally very challenging for western games to land a the top of the Japanese sales charts by Media Create in their debut week, but doing so for three consecutive weeks is a rather epic feat. Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man did it, as you can see in the software chart below, showcasing the period between September 17th and September 23rd.
As usual, the first number associated with each game represents its weekly sales, while the second shows its lifetime sales.

Not even Steins;Gate Elite combining all three platforms (PS4, Switch, and PS Vita) could come close to the local success of Insomniac’s Spider-Man open-world adventure, which is now close to 250,000 units sold in Japan. That’s a very respectable milestone for a game developed in the west.
While the popularity of the Marvel universe in general and that of Spider-Man, in particular, isn’t certainly minimal in Japan, this probably helped more in the debut week, while continued sales are more likely to be the result of positive reviews and word of mouth.
