I think it’s safe to say that the Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is one of the Nintendo Switch’s most delightfully surprising titles.

A stunning art style, fantastic gameplay loop and heaps of charm made the game one of my, and many others, top games on the console.

Now, after an unfortunate leak on Nintendo’s own website, Ubisoft has announced a follow up to the 2017 strategy hit.

Titled Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, the title got a cinematic trailer, some sneak peek gameplay footage and a release year!

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope E3 Cinematic and Gameplay Trailers

Ubisoft initially revealed Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope at E3 via a stunning cinematic trailer.

The tone is set early as Mario and his Rabbid companions float through space towards their target destination before we’re introduced to the newest members of the Rabbid family – Rosalina and Luma.

The spaceship Mario and Co are flying then lands on a planet and we’re given an Avengersstyle lineup and introduced to the game’s main villain, Cursa.

We’re then treated to some absolutely stunning gameplay footage which looks suspiciously too good to be running on a normal Switch…

Within the footage, we get a brief look at how the game has evolved from Kingdom Battle, including greater movement options within battles.

We also get a glimpse of some of the new environments, including a beach, mansion and cave, alongside a mysterious new Rabbid comrade.

When’s the game coming out?

Ubisoft revealed the game is due to hit stores in 2022, however, unfortunately, they gave no other indication than that.

One thing we can probably glean from the footage we’ve seen so far is that Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope will be coming some point after the inevitable Switch Pro.
