The well-known collectible trading card game, Magic: The Gathering, has been around for over twenty years. Thousands of cards have been produced since its debut in 1993, with new sets releasing on a regular basis. Wizards of the Coast’s new video games studio, Digital Games Studio, is bringing the long-running card game to the digital space in the form of the new free-to-play title, Magic: The Gathering Arena. Interested players may sign up for the game’s closed beta now.

The developer’s inaugural title will feature everything fans love from Magic: The Gathering including full rules and continuous content support with new card sets. Magic: The Gathering Arena is designed to create an authentic experience featuring dynamic, fast-paced, and easy-to-follow matches.

The aforementioned closed beta will begin later this year. It will showcase casual Constructed play with cards from the brand new Ixalan release. More features, and formats will be implemented as testing progresses.

In Magic: The Gathering, two or more players assume the role of Planeswalkers, mages who have the ability to summon a variety of interesting creatures, and perform powerful spells. The game’s newest expansion, the aforementioned Ixalan, officially releases on September 29. Recently, publisher Perfect World Entertainment, and developer Cryptic Studios announced a new RPG based on the popular trading card game.

Magic: The Gathering Arena will be available for PC, but has yet to receive an official release date. In the meantime, check out some screenshots of the new free-to-play digital card game:
