Lost Words: Beyond the Page is a surreal and beautiful story where the pages of a young girl’s journal come to life. A new gameplay trailer was recently shown off at the New York Game Awards that revealed a beautiful and surreal story that mixes platforming and puzzle-solving in a fascinating new adventure.

Lost Words is the debut game from Sketchbook Games and was written by Rhianna Pratchett of Heavenly Sword and Overlord fame as well as being largely responsible for reinventing Lara Croft in the recent Tomb Raider games.

The game’s protagonist Izzy escapes reality through her diary to the fantasy world of Estoria which she has created. Lost Words’ levels are inspired by her memories and imagination with player decisions directly shaping the events that unfold in Estoria. Narrative and gameplay are uniquely tied together by having the player running over and interacting with words to solve puzzles and alter events. For example, if you need to fix something, you would want to interact with the word repair. This level of choice will make each play through a one of a kind experience.

The emotional story unfolds in a vibrant visual style that resembles a watercolor painting. Following the success of last year’s sleeper hits Concrete Genie and Knights and Bikes, Lost Words: Beyond the Page is sure to deliver a poignant tale with a childlike innocence that will appeal to all ages.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page is coming sometime in Spring of 2020. It will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch with a retail cost of $19.99. It’s being published by Modus Games.
