William Peter Hjate, also known in the Smash Bros community as Leffen, has decided to quit Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This news came out on Twitter, where he stated that his time with the game has come to an end.
Did well enough in Ultimate to feel satisfied for now. I know I could do better if I stuck to one character/spent more time in America but I don’t think that is worth the cost atm.

Leffen has a long history in the Smash community, being one of the most prominent players out there, specifically in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Last year, he won EVO 2018, which is considered the biggest fighting game tournament in the world. What made this achievement even more impressive was that he had previously been deported from the United States.
As a Swedish player, he was forced out of the country after his travel Visa not being approved in 2015 due to Super Smash Bros. not being considered an official sport or a legitimate form of work. This obviously impacted his time to practice against competitive players as most top Smash Bros. players live in the United States. Even with that in mind, he called out on Twitter that he would win the next EVO he entered and he did.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he is still one of the top players known for using a variety of characters like Pokemon Trainer, Roy, and Pichu. While he isn’t going to completely stop playing the game in the competitive scene he is going to stop putting in the time to get better.
The next major Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament will be at Get On My Level 2019, which takes place between May 17 and May 19. All of this being said, top level Smash players have taken breaks from the competitive scene before coming back, so don’t be surprised Leffen makes a return one day.
