Roll7 and 505 Games announced today that they will be holding a Closed Beta, or “field test”, for their upcoming neon-infused multiplayer game Laser League this weekend. Players can sign up for the Closed Beta on the game’s website and will get a Steam code which can be redeemed immediately, though people won’t have the ability to log in until Friday.

The beta will run from 7 am PT on Friday until 7 pm PT on Sunday, with a stress test happening on Laser League’s servers happening at 1pm PT on Friday. The beta will give players access to 3v3 matches on a few of Laser League’s  maps. 505 Games and Roll7 wanted to hold this Closed Beta to both give players an early look at the game and test out Laser League’s servers and balance to help shape future development before the title hits Early Access on Steam, so those who participate may run into some server problems.

For those of you who don’t know, Laser League is described by the developers as an intense multiplayer game that calls back to the more approachable multiplayer games of arcades. In a match, players must attempt to dodge lasers of their opponent’s color, while also setting up their own obstacles to mess up other players. DualShockers had the chance to try out the game at E3 this year, so you can check out our full thoughts about the game in our preview.

Roll7 also released their first developer diary for the game today. In the video, they discuss the early origins of the game as prototype titled Ultra Neon Tactics, the reactions of journalists and fans who played early versions of the title, and the ultimate vision they have for the game.

You can check out the new developer diary below. Laser League is set to enter Early Access on PC later this year.
