If Coronavirus COVID-19 took the world by surprise, slowing down all activity and canceling major events, Kimetsu no Yaiba getting a PlayStation 4 game is the least surprising news of 2020. Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Chifuutan was announced for PS4 with a 2021 release. The game is published by Aniplex. The developer studio wasn’t revealed.

We learned of Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Chifuutan  via usual magazine leaks shared by Spytrue:

In the magazine, the game genre of Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Chifuutan is described as “fighting action”, this means it’ll be a 3D battle arena fighting game with 2 or more players fighting each other. Think of games like Dissidia Final Fantasy, or all the recent Shonen adaptations from Bandai Namco like My Hero One’s Justice, One Punch Man A Hero Nobody Knows, etc. All greatly inspired by older games such as Sega’s Virtual On.

Kimetsu no Yaiba, localized as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba outside Japan, is a manga first launched in February 2016, drawn and written by Koyoharu Gotōge. Over the years, Kimetsu garnered incredible popularity in Japan and worldwide, becoming one of the flagship titles of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. As of February 2020, the Kimetsu manga reached over 40.3 million copies sold, making it one of the best selling manga of all time. The manga’s popularity only increased when its high-quality TV anime adaptation by Studio Ufotable aired from April to September 2019, and a movie will also be coming in 2020. Many believe Kimetsu no Yaiba is pretty much One Piece’s successor in terms of popularity in Japan, assuming the manga runs for just as long.

It’s highly likely we’ll get more details and an announcement trailer for Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Chifuutan on PS4 during March 21-24, when Anime Japan 2020 was supposed to be held before getting canceled like many Japanese events. Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Chifuutan‘s official website isn’t open yet either.

A Kimetsu no Yaiba mobile game was announced as well.
