In a series of tweets, Japanese studio Entergram announced the development for both Kaleidoscope of Phantasm Prison and Umineko Saku is still going forward. The tweets explain how the studio, like all others, switched to a work from home format during the state of emergency in Japan due to Covid-19. While the developers are encountering difficulties and there are some things they can’t do as usual, both games are still coming.

Moreover, Entergram also teased one of the characters appearing in the new story content included in Umineko Saku. The tweet mentions “you should be able to guess who if you’re an Umineko fan who knows their stuff”.

Kaleidoscope of Phantasm Prison 1st Opening

Kaleidoscope of Phantasm Prison, also known as Gensou Rougoku no Kaleidoscope or Gerokasu, is the newest horror visual novel by 07th Expansion’s Ryukishi07. It has character designs by Key’s Itaru Hinoue. Gerokasu was scheduled to launch on November 28, 2019, for PS Vita, PS4 and Switch, but was indefinitely delayed. Be sure to check out our past coverage, for more details on the story, the game’s cute girls and comments from the staff and cast.

Kaleidoscope of Phantasm Prison is Japan-only for now, needless to say. I’d bet it will come over though, seeing Ryukishi07’s popularity.

Umineko Saku PS4, Switch opening

This is the PS4, Switch version of PC sound novel Umineko Saku released in October 2019. The full title is Umineko no Naku Koro ni Saku: Nekobako to Musou no Koukyoukyoku. Umineko Saku is an ultimate version with every single Umineko episode in a single package, along with brand new story elements. The PS4, Switch version will have the full voice acting of the previous PS3 versions along with updated graphics. It also has a brand new opening anime sequence. The opening song is Kasaneawase no Nekobako. Chiyomaru Shikura is the composer, Sasaki Rico the singer. Umineko Saku has no release estimate yet.

As you already know if you clicked on this article in the first place, Umineko is part of 07th Expansion’s When They Cry series. It’s made of Higurashi, Umineko, and the brand new series Ciconia, which recently debuted in October 2019. The first Ciconia game is available on Steam. Ciconia is scheduled to be four games in total, and the second one should release sometime in late 2020.

Both Kaleidoscope of Phantasm Prison and Umineko Saku are highly anticipated games for Ryukishi07 fans, myself included. So it’s nice we’ve got some news on both.

Higurashi is also getting a brand new TV anime in July 2020.
