After the short, poetic trailer revealed a few days ago, Nippon Ichi Software hit us with a full-length trailer for Destiny Connect, the upcoming JRPG themed around sentient robots and time-travel.

The trailer goes over the game’s story, with main character Sherry going to the town of Clockney’s new millennium festival with her mom, and witnessing a time stop phenomenon along with the appearance of mysterious, aggressive robots.Sherry then discovers time-traveling robot Isaac in her father’s study. Sherry, her friend Pegleo, and Isaac will travel in multiple eras, past and future, to save the town of Clockney from time-stop doom. The game’s story will also have a Back to The Future vibe, with the appearance of Sherry’s parents as teens. Robots having human-like souls will also be one of the themes of the game. You can read more about Sherry, her friend Pegleo, Isaac, the town of Clockney and the game’s setting in our article covering the game’s announcement.

The second part of the trailer shows some battles. They follow a traditional turn-based system, with turn orders decided by character speed. Sherry’s using a gun and Isaac uses different transformations from a samurai to a western gunman, depending on the way you customize him.

It’s quite interesting how the way the game is marketed ties in with the game’s story. Sherry and her friends traveling to the past echoes the game’s wish to bring players back into a golden era of RPGs. Nostalgia in itself is like a product nowadays, and fake nostalgia exists as well. Many RPGs these past years claimed to fulfill these kinds of promises but failed to transport us in time. I’m really looking forward to Destiny Connect and I hope it won’t disappoint.

Destiny Connect launches in Japan on March 14 for PS4 and Switch. The game should definitely get a localization, though none was announced yet.
