How Long Does it Takes to Complete Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot?

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the first big release of the year. Based on the hit anime Dragon Ball Z, Bandai Namco’s new action RPG follows its many sagas, beginning with Raditz’s trip to Earth. As it goes through all the major sagas, one has to wonder how long it will actually take to complete Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It turns out it’s pretty long, but maybe not as long as watching the show in its entirety (depending on how you play).

How long is Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot?

Famitsu recently published a review (thanks wccftech) which revealed quite a bit about Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Firstly, according to the Japanese publication, the new action RPG is pretty good, receiving a 34/40. If you’ve been wary of the game’s quality, and if you trust Famitsu’s opinion on video games, then you may rest easy.

Now to the heart of the matter. The review mentions that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be roughly 40 hours long without doing any side content. However, if you’re a completionist, you will need to carve out some time. It will take over 100 hours to fully complete Goku’s iconic adventure.

Is it as long as the anime?

A question I began to ponder as we come closer to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s release: Is the game longer than the anime? I’m going to be honest, I’m not about to check how long each episode of Dragon Ball Z is so let’s give a rough estimate. There are a total of 291 episodes of the anime. Each episode is roughly 24 minutes. That means there are about 6984 minutes or about 116 hours of Dragon Ball Z. So, actually, it is pretty similar if you plan on seeing everything in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

That time will change if you decide to watch Dragon Ball Z Kai. This version of the anime cuts much of the filler giving you the main story beats. There are only 159 episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai with each episode roughly being 24 minutes. That adds up to 3816 minutes or roughly 64 hours. So, if you are mainlining Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, it will actually take longer to watch the abridged version of the anime.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is set to launch for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on January 17. Bandai Namco recently shared a video of how to progress your character in-game. There will be more on Goku’s adventure soon, so check DualShockers in the coming weeks.
