Time Taken To Oxidize Copper In Minecraft

Copper ores can be used to craft telescopes, construct lightning rods, and give a new look to your roofs in Minecraft. But there is one thing you should know that just like in real life, the copper in Minecraft oxidizes automatically with time.

The can be tricky because, after oxidation, copper blocks start changing their color. But the good news is that Minecraft update 1.17 allows you to freeze the age of copper to make sure it doesn’t change. We shall talk about that a little later.

But first, let’s talk about how long does it take to oxidize copper in Minecraft.

Copper ores oxidize over a significant period of time. The oxidation of copper ore takes place in four different stages:

  • Raw copper
  • Lightly weathered copper
  • Semi-weathered copper
  • Weathered copper

When loaded in chunks, it takes about 50-82 Minecraft days for a copper block to oxidize from one stage to another.

How To Prevent Copper From Oxidization In Minecraft?

You can choose to preserve a copper block in any given stage by waxing it. This means that you can freeze the lightly weathered copper block (or any other) in the same stage forever!

However, is to be noted that waxed copper blocks cannot be oxidized further in Minecraft. So once you choose to wax any copper block, you cannot change it any further.
