When it comes to video game creators such as Hideo Kojima, it’s easy to assume that they have a blank check to create anything they want at any point in time. However, just like the rest of the games industry, it seems that projects in their early stages are often prone to being scrapped altogether and Kojima and his team are no exception.

In a new conversation with Livedoor (translated by VGC), Kojima Productions founder Hideo Kojima stated that he recently had a notable project of his own get scrapped. Kojima didn’t comment on the nature of the title or what it might have involved, but he didn’t sound surprised that it ended up going this way. “Recently a major project of mine got cancelled so I’m pretty pissed, but that’s the games industry for you,” he expressed.

Despite this mysterious project that will (likely) never see the light of day getting canned, Kojima said that he has already started the early stages of development for his next video game. “It’s still in the early planning stages so I can’t say much, but on the down-low I’m actively working on it,” Kojima said.

For now, it’s still uncertain just what this next game that Kojima creates might end up becoming, but in recent months, the famed video game creator has expressed interest in making a title that will let players lose control of their bodily functions. Specifically, Kojima has said he’d like to make a horror game where players might literally poop themselves. “Something that uses a revolutionary method to create terror, that doesn’t just make you pee your pants, but crap them,” Kojima said in an interview a few months back.“I already have ideas in mind.”

No matter which genre Kojima Productions commits to for its next game, one thing is for certain: the studio shouldn’t be hurting for money. Kojima also recently confirmed that the PS4 release of Death Stranding already recouped its costs, meaning that the game was what he’d label a success.

With the PC version of the game set to arrive next month on July 14, the team at Kojima Productions should continue to net itself more revenue to help prepare for what’s to come.
