Henry Cavill, an actor best known for portraying Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League, has been cast as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s upcoming series based on book series and video game franchise The Witcher.
The actor actually expressed interest in playing the role to IGN last month, and this wishful thinking seems to have become a reality. This series was first announced last year, DualShockers even discussed who we’d have liked to play Geralt, and information about it has trickled out since. In addition to Henry Cavill’s casting though, we also got new information on The Witcher’s premise and who will be directing the episodes.
Netflix has released the official logline for the show’s first seasons, which hints at both well-known characters while teasing an exciting adventure. You can check out the full description below:
Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the showrunner, but she won’t be directing any of The Witcher’s eight episodes. Alik Sakharov (House of Cards) will direct the first episode of the show as well as three others. Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel’s Luke Cage) will direct 2 episodes, as will Charlotte Brändström (Outlander). All of these directors have proven themselves on good projects, so it seems like the series will be well directed.
Netflix’s The Witcher series is still in the works and is without a premiere date. That being said, DualShockers will be sure to let you know when that date is announced or more casting information is released.
