Sony is once again what the best-selling games were in the prior month on PlayStation Blog. In this case, they are covering January 2020, which was a generally quiet month for game releases. Because of that, an evergreen game that continues to top sales charts was the best selling digital game: Grand Theft Auto V.

This shouldn’t be too much of a shock as Grand Theft Auto V is the best selling game of the 2010s and it consistently places somewhere in these top 10 lists Sony publishes. Still, its impressive for a game almost six and a half years out from launch to do this well. Its performance last month may be a bit bittersweet though, as its Director and Writer Dan Houser recently left Rockstar.

Following Grand Theft Auto V, the best-selling PS4 games list was mainly made up of other popular games from years prior, with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot being the only new game on the list at third place. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare nestled itself between Grand Theft Auto V and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot to take second place. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition and Star Wars Battlefront II round out the top 5 and both probably performed well thanks to releases of The Witcher on Netflix and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in late December.

In general, January 2020 was a month dominated by evergreen games on PS4. When it comes to PlayStation VR, stalwart VR classics like Beat Saber, Superhot VR, and Job Simulator took the top three slots in that order. Then, when it comes to free-to-play games and DLC, Fortnite dominated. That being said, Darwin Project and Kingdom Hearts III Remind put up solid fights to take second place in the free-to-play and DLC categories, respectively. You can check out all four top 10 lists on the PlayStation Blog.
