You may recall Goosebumps as that gamebook or TV show from the 90s. Of course, over the years it’s taken to other forms of media, and the latest is an upcoming video game. Goosebumps Dead of Night is planned to launch on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch and seems to be a tame horror.

Developed by Cosmic Forces, the game takes inspiration from the film series and book franchise and will throw players into the world through a first-person survival horror game experience. Slappy the Dummy becomes a nuisance after stealing pages from the classic stories, bringing the monsters to life and those monsters are now hunting the player down.

Players are tasked with finding these missing pages while avoiding the monsters. They can expect to come face-to-face with the Graveyard Ghoul, Lawn Gnomes, Annihilator 3000, Murder the Clown, and the Werewolf of Fever Swamp. Players will be able to explore the environments for clues, hiding from the monsters, and solving puzzles. The trailer shows players solving a few puzzles such as a corkboard with connections to be made, and fiddling around with scientific fluids of sorts.

The trailer shows Goosebumps Dead of Night in a style you’d expect from a Goosebumps title, being rather cartoonish, bright, and not overrun with shadows like a typical horror survival title. Given that the game is rated E for everyone 10+ this looks like a nice dip into the horror genre without being entirely overwhelming.

Originally, Cosmic Forces developed Goosebumps Night of Scares as a mobile VR title, and now the developer has shifted its focus to other platforms building on the game. The new platforms allow for HD graphics and additional chapters. There are also five new monsters introduced that come with improved AI. Along with additional chapters the game will also include an “expanded Stine House” that features even more puzzles to solve.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game will also include HD Rumble, touchscreen support, and gyroscope controls. At current, there’s no specific release date set, but those interested can expect to see it arriving sometime this summer for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
