God of War (2018) is a monumental title on PlayStation 4 and it’s of little surprise considering how well the first game in the franchise did. It also may not come as a big shock that Naughty Dog’s upcoming release The Last of Us Part 2‘s pre-orders have outpaced those of God of War (2018) in the region of Brazil to become the highest-selling PlayStation exclusive ever prior to release. But even so, God of War remains a huge love with gamers and especially those with incredible artistic talents like Lap Pun Cheung who has reimaged the iconic Kratos and Atreus into an adorable Studio Ghibli style sketch.

Lap Pun Cheung, a concept artist and storyteller based in Helsinki, Finland, produces concept work for games, film, and animation and by night, he does keyframes of personal and fan projects that he’s very passionate about. Studio Ghibli is best known for its animated feature films which were founded all the way back in 1985 by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and have remained as iconic now as they were then. By producing some incredible films like Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro and many others, Studio Ghibli has made a huge impact within the animated film industry and also, in the process, inspired many creators to follow their unique design.

As you’ll notice in the images below, Cheung has taken Ghibli’s art style and adapted it into God of War. We see Kratos and Atreus strolling through a forest together in a wonderfully colorful drawing. Unsurprisingly, Atreus is having a little too much fun which annoys Kratos to the point of wanting to bring him down a peg or two by bellowing “Boy! Stop having fun.” This certainly would be an interesting concept if it were brought into the animation world and something that I think would do remarkably well given how much we all love these characters as well as animation films.

To take a look at what a grown image of Atreus would look like, check out this article showcasing work from Sam Yang who does a bunch of brilliant digital paintings in photoshop. Sam takes on the son of Kratos and Laufey and also the deuteragonist of God of War in some stunning fan art. If that tickles your fancy, you may also enjoy work by André SiK who captures Atreus’ journey into becoming a man in the years following his acknowledgment of knowing that he is a God. Coming in with some cosplaying adventures is Ibelinn, a talented cosplayer from Norway who mimicked the beautiful style of God of War’s goddess Freya and it suffices to say that all her hard work and hours put into this cosplay truly paid off.

For those wanting to play God of War on PC, there was some news in March regarding this topic. Following some new changes surfacing on the PlayStation website, we saw that the U.S. version of the official PlayStation website no longer contains the “Only On Playstation” for God of War. This, of course, could mean many different things but as we have seen of late Sony is clearly intending to bring more of its first-party published titles to PC, even if it doesn’t mean God of War at this time.

God of War is available now exclusively on PS4. If you have yet to experience the game for yourself, you can pick up the game right now over on Amazon.
